The Golden Pine Club

When I was young I was in the habit of creating clubs that served no purpose other than to be called "clubs".
I found a notebook devoted to one called "The Golden Pine Club". There were two pages used to list the officers of the club and the rest was completely blank. I really have to laugh at my young self when I see things like that.
I thought it would be a nice tribute to my talent for writing silly, pointless, charming, naive things to make The Golden Pine Club the informal club in which my friends and I get together and share our outrageous past literary attempts. That was several years ago and seriously - it never gets old. I don't think I ever laugh so hard as when I am reading my old junk.
And somehow, I am still uprooting things - Like this really, really, really nice sketch book I found today. It was super-good paper and my friends and I wasted the entire thing with things like....

"Dude, I like, am totally in love with Sean.
Ha! I caught you in the act of reading this!
Ha! You're busted.
Okay, Dude, I like, am totally in love with Sean.
Dude (Sean) if you're reading this, I love you!!!"

And a whole page devoted to listing the verbally popular things to say -

Funny Sayings

  1. Holy Shishcabob and pink frosted cupcakes!

  2. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Legolas, NOOOOO!!

  3. Spit Takes!!!

  4. Checkerboards and Jellybeans

  5. I haven't the foggiest clue why it was "in" to say "Spit takes!!!!". Really. I don't. But I can add to somethings that weren't on this list - "Graham Crackers and Peanut Butter!" and "Polynomials". I laughed hysterically at those. A friend of mine also went through a stage of saying "Green." ALL the time.

Moving on - And entire page is taken up by "DDR RULES!!!!!!!!" in big lettering.

Another page -

"Wild rice soup stuff is very very very good! Even though Damian already ate out of it.

Escarole soup is good!

Minestrone soup is very good!

Beef stew rules!!

Chicken soup ROCKS dude!

SOUP RULES!"

Oh, oh, this one is good. It is a huge multiplication figure over a whole page to calculate how many lines in the road there are from my house to the library.

So there you have it. I will not attempt to define "cool", I will only say that we were very cool kids.
