For Those Whose Brains Never Shut Up
I've been writing a lot about my lack of sleep lately. It is a pretty significant part of my existence right now. I am here, though, to let y'all know that I have remembered the solution. It was so brilliant a solution to begin with that I have no idea why it got lost, but here it is: Sherlock Holmes. Seriously the only book that I've ever been able to fall asleep while still reading. It's amazing. It's the perfect mix of comprehensible and intelligent, so your brain has to work, but not too hard. It's the perfect mix of suspense and satisfaction, so it keeps you interested, but you can finish a story in enough time to go to sleep knowing how it ended up. And the fact that it's all completely based on logic is good for your brain to rest on. Nothing is left to wonder about in the end, and what at the beginning of the story might seem confusing and unnerving is always cleared up. My brain feels the satisfaction of that question answered and often gives me peace for long enough that I forget my real problems and can fall asleep. It's amazing how my stress dreams have gone down since I started reading one short story a night. So - To hell with warm milk (which makes me want to gag anyway), and in with the Sherlock Holmes. I do wish he were real, for I have a feeling that he could help me navigate blogger and figure out what I did to make my paragraphs inseparable.
